Description: Since many of the students who complete their ESL certifications teach abroad, this course helps students tremendously when it comes to culture shock. Teachers will be exposed to different situations that they may not normally be faced with in their home country. This professional development course will give you advice on what to expect during the first year of teaching while living abroad this course will examine the pitfalls of what some first time ESL teachers face while abroad and how to avoid them. The course offers 50 hours of classroom time and can be completed in two weeks.

Objectives: One of the hardest things that ESL teachers have to deal with is culture shock. Unless you have spent time in the country where you are going to teach, it is pretty hard not to be affected by culture shock. With this in mind, teaching may not be a problem but the culture shock can definitely create a problem down the line. The reason for this is that personally you may be affected or even in your job you may become frustrated and in disbelief over what is happening.
